On May 6th, IT Home reported that market research firm Canalys released a report today stating that global tablet shipments increased slightly by 1% in the first quarter of 2024, reaching 33.7 million units. This is the first time growth has been achieved after four consecutive quarters of decline, thanks to the recovery of consumer spending and the stable improvement of the global economy.
Kamani Mukka, Research Manager at Canalys, said, "After experiencing a difficult year of 2023, the tablet industry has made a good start in 2024 and will further ease in the second half of this year. Although consumers have long been cautious about tablet spending, manufacturers are still full of confidence. New players continue to invest in this field, and leading manufacturers continue to innovate, trying to stimulate consumer interest and drive new use cases."
It is worth noting that Apple is expected to use OLED screens on the iPad Pro, marking a significant shift in the display technology preferences of leading manufacturers in tablets. In addition, 2024 is bound to achieve new breakthroughs in the appearance and functionality of tablets, with manufacturers focusing on foldable designs and 3D images that can be viewed without wearing glasses. With the gradual recovery of the tablet market, it is expected to be higher than pre pandemic levels in the future. The delayed deployment of the commercial sector and government last year, as well as the rapid expansion of 5G infrastructure in undeveloped markets, will inevitably drive up demand for tablets.
